Laurie M. Higginbotham

Ms. Higginbotham has been practicing plaintiffs’ trial and appellate law with the firm since 1999. A fourth-generation native Texan, she was raised in Dallas before moving to Austin in 1992. She attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a BA in History in 1995 and a JD in 1999. While at the University, Laurie was active in the Board of Advocates, Assault & Flattery, and was a columnist for The Daily Texan. She was awarded Best Advocate, Best Brief, and Tournament Champion in the Gibbs & Bruns Endowed Moot Court Competition in 1998 and Best Advocate in the Susman Godfrey Endowed Moot Court Competition in 1999. She is a member of the National Order of the Barristers. Prior to working at the firm, Laurie received a Texas Law Fellowship to work with prosecutors of child abuse at the Travis County Children’s Advocacy Center, where she also volunteered for five years teaching “court school” to child victims and fundraising.

Her professional associations include the State Bar of Texas, Texas Trial Lawyers Association, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, Federal Bar Association, American Bar Association, Austin Young Lawyers Association, Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association, the Travis County Bar Association and the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association. Laurie is serving a three-year term on the Texas Trial Lawyers Association Advocates Board of Directors and on the board of the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association.

Laurie has coached several moot court teams at the University of Texas School of Law. She mentors 4th-6th grade girls at Sanchez Elementary in Austin, serves on the Austin Young Lawyers Association (AYLA) Community Service Committee, and is involved in a Pro Bono Domestic Violence Project sponsored jointly by Volunteer Legal Services and AYLA. She has also appeared in the Travis County Bar Association’s production of “Bar & Grill.” Laurie’s husband, Jamal Alsaffar, is also a practicing trial lawyer with the Michael Archuleta Law Firm. They have one child. Laurie is a member of University United Methodist Church in Austin.

Ms. Higginbotham is admitted to practice before the State Bar of Texas and the United States District Court, Western District of Texas.
