Scott A. Ozmun Scott Ozmun has been with the firm since 1986. Before joining the firm, he spent one year as a briefing attorney for Justice William Kilgarlin of the Supreme Court of Texas. Upon joining the firm, he combined his appellate experience with a personal injury trial practice. Mr. Ozmun has handled a wide variety of product liability, medical negligence, civil rights, and drug and medical device cases. Many of these cases involved death or serious bodily injury. Scott has obtained one of the largest §1983 civil rights settlements in the nation ($9,950,000). He is certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Appellate Law. He also is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He obtained his AB in Government from Georgetown University and graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law. Recently, Scott was named as a Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly magazine. Scott is also very active in community and professional organizations. He is currently serving his second term as Chairman of the Travis County Democratic Party. He is also currently a Board member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, and is the Secretary-Treasurer of the Capital Area Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past President and Board member of the Austin Young Lawyers Association and member of the boards of the Travis County Bar Association and the Texas Young Lawyers Association. He has been very active in support of legal services to the indigent through his ten plus years of service on the Boards of Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas and Legal Aid of Central Texas. He also served as President of both of these boards. Scott has also served on many committees of both state and local bar associations on legal services issues. In 1999, he received the J. Chrys Dougherty Award for his dedication to legal services to the poor. In addition to his professional activities, Scott was chosen to participate in the Leadership Austin 1993-94 class. Scott and his wife Beth, an attorney with Advanced Micro Devices, have two children. They have coached mock trial teams at the University of Texas School of Law. Mr. Ozmun is licensed to practice before the State Bar of Texas; the United States District Courts, Northern and Western Districts of Texas; and the U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. |
