| Commitment to Community Service |
Whitehurst, Harkness, Ozmun & Brees has a long history of community service. The efforts of the firm’s attorneys and staff contribute to improving our community through work in and out of the office. The firm and all the people who work here give time, talent, and money to numerous non-profit organizations, including our annual pledge drive for United Way. A priority is the firm’s long-standing relationship with Sanchez Elementary School through Austin Independent School District’s Communities in Schools program. The firm helped with funds to build the school’s playground, and firm employees go the extra step of mentoring individual students, visiting them weekly during the school year. The firm’s commitment to legal services to the poor is central to the firm’s ethic. Our attorneys have long been active with Volunteer Legal Services of Central Texas and Texas Rural Legal Aid (formerly Legal Aid of Central Texas), and other organizations devoted to pro bono activities and equal access to justice. Of course, the firm’s attorneys are active in many other bar related organizations, from Texas Young Lawyers Association to the American Board of Trial Advocates. The firm’s involvement in the community, however, extends far beyond the legal field. Our attorneys and staff are active locally with many community organizations including the Travis County Democratic Party, the Austin Children’s Museum, Meals on Wheels, Peer Assistance Group of America, Leadership Austin, El Buen Samaritano, the Austin Children’s Shelter, the Austin Police Department Civil Defense Battalion, the Austin Police Department Search and Rescue volunteer program, the Families of Russian Ukrainian Adoptions, local churches, and numerous youth soccer, baseball and basketball teams. |
