It is a good idea for someone to go to the scene of the accident as soon as possible to document conditions and evidence important to understanding how the accident occurred. Information gathered early will assist in accident reconstruction later, should it be necessary. Photographs of the accident scene, the vehicles involved, and of your injuries are extremely helpful later on. Witnesses can be contacted while their recollection of the accident is still fresh.

If you have been injured, there are also things that you can do that will be helpful later on. For example, you should be careful about giving a statement about the accident to anyone other than your own insurance company. Any statement you do give should be given in circumstances that allow you to answer questions carefully and accurately. You should also check your own insurance policies to see whether you have purchased coverage that will help reimburse your own damages.
